WACO, Texas – The #14/#8 Louisiana Christian University women's tennis team junior
Valeria Callejo was named First Team All-Conference as part of the Red River Athletic Conference's postseason awards, the conference office announced on Saturday.
Callejo, a native of Madrid, Spain and transfer from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, anchored the number three position for the Wildcats during the season, finishing with an 11-5 record in singles.
In doubles, Callejo exclusively teamed with
Raquel Coelho Rodrigues as LCU's number two tandem, going 13-3 with two of their three loses coming to NCAA Division I pairs. The duo also had a match at the number one position, a loss to a Division I tandem.
Callejo was named the RRAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week on March 23.
Freshman
Akari Uchiyama was also named as LCU's representative to the RRAC's Champions of Character Team, best exemplifying the NAIA's Champions of Character five core values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.
Callejo, Uchiyama, and the rest of the #14/#8 Wildcats (12-6) now await the NAIA Men's & Women's Tennis Championship Selection Show, which airs on Tues., April 28 at 3 p.m. on the NAIA YouTube channel, to see if they will earn a spot in the NAIA Tennis National Championships.
The 2026 NAIA Men's & Women's Tennis National Championships run May 12-16 in Mobile, Ala. at the Mobile Tennis Center.
