Fontenot’s Complete Game Shutout, Game-Ending Double Play Declaws #10 Jags

PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Christian University baseball program rode the right arm of Cy Fontenot and received a clutch 5-3, 3-5 double play to end tenth-ranked Houston-Victoria's comeback hopes, getting two outs at third base in the inning to escape victorious. 1-0.

The Orange and Blue are now winners of nine consecutive ballgames, its longest such streak since peeling off 15-in-a-row in the midst of the 2019 regular season.

The goose egg on the scoreboard was the second produced by LCU this year, the other came in a 12-0 blanking of Champion Christian back on February 10, while yielding zero walks for just the third time (the other two coming versus Midland).

It was their fourth triumph over a NAIA Top 25 adversary in ten contests, adding the Jaguars to the list that includes #13 MACU, #12 Kansas Wesleyan and #22 Tabor.

  • Chris Kelley was the sole run-producer in game one as his single through the right side of the infield in the Cats' first turn up to the dish turned out to be the difference during a 2-for-3 afternoon.

  • Among the ten base hits picked up by both sides, each and every one of them was a single, two of them off the sticks swung by Braden McLin as well as Braxton Cooksey, the latter scoring the winning run.
