TYLER, Texas – The Louisiana Christian University men's basketball team had four players score at least 10 points, but cold shooting proved costly as the Wildcats fell to the Texas College Steers 65-63 Thursday night at the Gus F. Taylor Fieldhouse.
Louisiana Christian (1-10, 0-5 RRAC) was down quickly, falling behind Texas College (2-9, 1-5 RRAC) 8-0 before rallying with a 16-3 run to take a 16-11 lead as
Joshua Escheik hit a three-pointer.
Another basket by Escheik gave LCU its largest lead of the half at six points, 27-21, with two minutes left before halftime.
The Wildcats led by as many as eight points with 7:40 left in the contest as
Bryce Weinmunson got to the rim for a lay-up to put LCU up 50-42.
An 11-1 Texas College run followed, giving the Steers the lead back, and from that point on, neither team led by more than one possession until the game's end.
Weinmunson and
Tomario Thomas, Jr. both scored 11 points to lead the Wildcats in scoring on the evening, both tallying 11 points on the night. Weinmunson grabbed seven rebounds and came up with five steals while Thomas grabbed a board.
Justice Kelly and
Jalani Bell, who made his return from injury, ended the night with 10 points each. Kelly grabbed nine rebounds while Bell hit two three-pointers in the contest.
The Wildcats continue their five-game road trip on Saturday in Hawkins, Texas, taking on Jarvis Christian. Tip-off of Saturday's contest against the Bulldogs (5-5, 2-4 RRAC) is set for 3 p.m. at the Earl W. Rand Center.
