Softball Overcomes Steady Rain, Three-Run Deficit To Walk Off Webber On Opening Day

PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Christian University softball program endured through a constant rainfall and rallied back from down 4-0 in the second as well as an 8-5 hole in the final frame to pull out an improbable 9-8 victory following Katelyn Carpenter's pinch-hit, walk-off, bases loaded single.

Wildcats Top Performers:

  • Carpenter was the exclamation point on the miraculous comeback, stepping up to the dish in place of Madelyn Bourgoyne and sending the Cats faithful home happy (and wet) with a frozen rope into the left-center gap to score pinch-runner Claire Cullen from third.

  • Jordan Dauthier was on the delivering end of the team's first home run of the season, cranking the seventh of her career with a laser beam solo shot that disappeared over the left field fence. For the day, she collected a pair of hits over four at-bats (.500) and scored both times she reached safely.

  • Mariel Medrano, a Hill Community College transfer, made a lasting impression in her debut, cashing in on both of her chances with the sacks full, earning three RBIs courtesy of a two-run single on top of a walk in those situations.

  • Bella Houck had the best slash line of the players who logged multiple at-bats, going 3-for-4 (.750) with a slugging of 1.250 as she crushed two of the club's three two-baggers (Lexi Broussard having the other) to rack up five total bases plus crossing the plate once along with a ribbie.

  • Emma Hunt used patience and speed to her full advantage, drawing a pair of free passes and scoring both times, swiping a bag on one of those occasions.

  • Morgan Louviere came on in relief in the second inning and handled both the pressure as well as a consistently slick softball to pick up the dub in the circle, giving her a dozen over 20 career appearances on "The Hill", making it even more impressive was the absence of any walks allowed and just one wild pitch.
