STERLINGTON, La. – The #5 Louisiana Christian University baseball program snapped a 19-game losing streak spanning all the way back to March 18, 2009 against the currently fourth-ranked team in the NAIA and #1 seed LSU Shreveport Pilots on Friday evening, erasing two different one-run deficits for a historic 5-2 victory to put them on the doorstep of the RRAC Championship Game.

Wildcats Top Performers:

  • Jacob Bareswill out-dueled the ace wearing Purple and Gold, upping his record to a perfect 4-0 after 6.1 innings of two-run baseball in which he struck out four, walked just two, and allowed seven hits to claim one of the biggest wins the team has seen in decades.

  • Braden Trull extended his current on-base streak to ten-in-a-row during a 2-for-3 effort, putting the Cats ahead for good in the bottom of the fifth with a two-out, two-run single. The designated hitter also walked and scored once.

  • Tyler McKenna stole sole possession of the team's home run crown back from Trull when he got ahold of a game-tying solo shot in the fourth for his sixth blast out of the park in 2024.

  • Kade Linn followed in the footsteps of Bareswill with a superb relief appearance spanning 2.2 scoreless frames to slam the door shut on any comeback attempt.

  • Logan Bertucci picked the perfect time for his fourth double of the campaign, lacing a two-RBI double to tack on a pair of gigantic insurance runs in the eighth for his second career multi-RBI contest.

  • Luke Morgan was the other student-athlete to put together multiple base knocks, doing so for just the third time this year with two singles as well as crossing the plate and coaxing a base on balls.

  • Nicholas Brunet reached safely in three separate plate appearances, poking through a seeing-eye single on top of not one, but two free passes.

Notes

  • LCU beat the odds in more ways than just ending the long drought against the Pilots, they also had to beat a potential NAIA All-American and the Red River Athletic Conference's Pitcher of the Year Isaac Rohde, who led the league in wins (10), strikeouts (109), and ERA (1.24) while leading the country in earned run average in addition to placing among the top-five in the other two statistics.

Next:

  • LCU looks to make its first Conference Championship Game since 2013 (10-4 loss to Texas-Tyler) when it matches up with the second-seeded Texas A&M-Texarkana Eagles at 7 p.m. on Saturday night.
