Yuratich’s Masterpiece, Clutch Hitting Dampen OUAZ’s Spirit

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The #5 Louisiana Christian University baseball program rode the arms of both Andrew Yuratich and Kade Linn while getting clutch at-bats up-and-down the lineup card, including four doubles, as the Wildcats continue to play their best baseball when the chips are down, eliminating #3 seed and receiving votes OUAZ by a final score of 9-4 to put them on the cusp of the Regional Championship Game.

Wildcats Top Performers:

  • The man of the evening was Yuratich without question, tying a season-high with seven full frames and setting another one by striking out eight batters as he used his arsenal of filthy pitches to surrender only two earned runs (four total) on four hits and four walks.

  • Luke Morgan picked the right time to have a career outing at the plate, notching his first ever three-hit game (3-of-4, .750) while doubling home Chris Kelley and stealing the lone base on either side.

  • Speaking of Kelley, the pinch-hit wizard struck again in the five-run sixth, coming off the bench to rip a two-RBI line-hugging two-bagger that was most likely the final blow to the opponent's coffin.

  • Braden Trull was the other student-athlete to collect multiple base knocks alongside Morgan, going 2-for-4 (.500) in addition to a pair of ribbies, a double, and a run scored.

  • Linn reserved OUAZ's flights back to Surprise, Arizona and put their campaign to bed, fanning two over two scoreless frames.

  • Braxton Cooksey and Adrian Aguilar might have only combined for two hits plus a walk (double and walk both went to Aggie), but they found a knack for scoring whenever they reached safely, scoring five times between them to account for 55.6% of the team's run production.

  • Reaching base safely is what Nicholas Brunet does best, singling in the sixth to bring Cooksey in and then coming around to touch home himself to extend his on-base streak to 11 straight.

Notes:

  • Louisiana Christian had made the NAIA Regionals once before back in 1987 as the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Regular Season Champions, but fell in both of their matchups, versus Grand Canyon (9-4) and Lubbock Christian (14-12) in Lubbock, Texas.

  • The win improves their record to 2-3 (40%) all-time in the NAIA Regional round.

Next:

  • After getting surprised and knocked into the Loser's Bracket by second-seeded Faulkner, the Cats will look to send the GGC Grizzlies into the offseason and erase the bitter taste in their mouths from Monday night when they square off at 11 a.m. ET / 10 a.m. CT on Wednesday morning.
