Duhon & Kelley Homer, Bats Fall Silent At #13 Loyola (New Orleans)

WESTWEGO, La. – The Louisiana Christian University baseball program started off the day with a bang as Caleb Duhon smashed a first inning home run, but that was about when the good news ran out as the 13th-ranked Wolfpack broke off the next nine runs unanswered to hand the Wildcats their eighth consecutive setback, 10-3.

Wildcats Top Performers:

  • Chris Kelley has become the go-to slugger off the bench for Head Coach Mike Byrnes, rocketing a round-tripper in a pinch-hit, ninth inning situation during back-to-back plate appearances dating back to Saturday's game at Southwest (New Mexico), this time with nobody on-base.

  • Duhon appeared to get the positive vibes going out of the gates when he destroyed a one-out pitch that seemingly to the nearby Crescent City to put LCU ahead two batters into the ballgame with his second career tater.

  • Tyler McKenna extended his on-base streak to 23 in-a-row, tying Drake Angeron from last year's club for the longest such string over the past two campaigns with a base knock in the seventh before coming around to score on a Gabe Spedale RBI single.

  • Braden Trull coaxed the Orange and Blue's only walk of the contest while both Braxton Cooksey and Nick Lorio rounded out the hit tally, the latter of which's was of the pinch-hit variety.

Next:

  • Senior weekend and some home cooking could be just what the doctor ordered to potentially right the ship as the Houston-Victoria Jaguars, who are receiving votes in the NAIA Top-25, invade Pineville for a three-game set beginning with a 3/6 p.m. twin-bill Friday afternoon.
