Southwest (New Mexico) Stuns Wildcats In Twin-Bill Sweep

HOBBS, N.M. – The Louisiana Christian University baseball program saw both teams' starters go the distance in a game one pitcher's duel that the Mustangs won 3-2 before the Cats watched its ninth inning lead shrink following a five-walk frame as Southwest quite literally walked off LCU by a 6-5 final for an unlikely sweep.

Wildcats Top Performers:

  • Tyler McKenna kept up his preposterous pace, going 3-of-5 (.600) with all three of his hits going for extra bases courtesy of a pair of doubles plus a solo blast, in addition to two walks and a hit-by-pitch.

                            * McKenna tied Nicholas Brunet for the longest on-base streak of the season by reaching safely in his 21st straight contest while upping his hitting streak to 16 in-a-row as he raised his batting average six points to .512 after coming into the weekend ranked second in the NAIA.

  • Cy Fontenot pitched a complete game in the opener, tossing seven innings of one earned baseball (three total) while striking out four during a tough to swallow check in the loss column.

  • Jayden Drake was lights out after entering from the bullpen, surrendering just one hit over his six-out effort including one strikeout of a Stang.

  • Local product Chris Kelley out of Pineville High School notched his first collegiate hit and second RBI, lacing a double on top of driving in one on a sacrifice fly.
