Game Of Inches: 9th Inning Rally Comes Up One Step Short

NATCHITOCHES, La. – The Louisiana Christian University baseball program mounted a dink-and-dunk ninth inning rally on a pair of singles by Nicholas Brunet and Noah Gaspard in the one-run affair, but a dribbler to the left of the pitchers mound beat Harrison Waxley by fractions of a second, with a replay review resulting in the call standing on the field, as the Wildcats came oh so close to knocking off an NCAA Division I opponent yet again in a 5-4 defeat.

Wildcats Top Performers:

  • Jacob Bareswill got the Orange and Blue off on the right foot, as the starter on the bump went two scoreless frames to go along with the same number of strikeouts, surrendering just one walk and one hit each.

  • In the batter's box, Hunter Gotreaux had the best line as he was 2-for-3 with an RBI, a double, a run scored, and drawing the club's lone walk as well.

  • Tyler McKenna drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh after NSU tied the game for the first time, crushing an RBI-double over the centerfielder's head in addition to a single plus a hit-by-pitch. He is now second on the team as he has safely reached 13 matchups in-a-row.

  • Brunet was the third student-athlete with multiple hits, upping his on-base streak to 21 consecutive ballgames now.

  • The duo of Adrian Aguilar and Caleb Duhon each drove in a ribbie apiece, with the latter stealing Louisiana Christian's only bag, while Waxley is now one shy of making it ten straight outings with at least one base knock.

Notes

  • Despite outhitting the Demons (12-7) and did not trail until the bottom of the seventh, LCU lost its second straight contest for only its second losing streak of 2024 so far.

Next:

  • Huston-Tillotson, the squad's next opponent on Thursday at 3/6 p.m., did what the Cats could not on Tuesday, splitting a doubleheader at NCAA Division I HBCU Prairie View A&M by scores of 9-3 and 5-4, taking the second matchup.
