Wildcats Top Performers:

  • After getting on in each matchup, Nicholas Brunet has now reached 20 straight games where he has reached base safely and also sports the second-longest hitting streak on the team at seven (Harrison Waxley is at eight).

*Against the Saints, the junior from Bourg, Louisiana led the Cats with five total bases, four RBIs, four hits, 15 putouts in the field, and a pair of runs scored in addition to going 4-of-8 (.500) plus a two-bagger.

  • Tyler McKenna, second to the lanky first baseman with an on-base streak of 12, was one of only two other student-athletes with an RBI during his 3-for-7 (.429) Saturday, joining Braden Trull and his sacrifice fly as the players to put a notch in that stat column.

  • Cy Fontenot improved to 3-1 following his near complete game of 6.2 innings and two earned runs surrendered, holding OLLU to a .136 batting average while striking out a career-high 12 hitters.

  • Jacob Bareswill came on for the one-out save in relief of Fontenot while Jayden Drake shown brightly out of the bullpen in the finale, tossing two-and-a-third along with a trio of whiffs and just one hit given up.

  • Waxley kept his hot stick in the flames, hitting .667 (4-for-6) in addition to a walk plus a double while the duo of Adrian Aguilar and Noah Gaspard each cracked .500 at the dish.

  • Nick Lorio returned to the lineup in San Antonio after missing a month due to a scary collision, scoring twice in the doubleheader to tie for the team lead with Aguilar, Brunet, and Hunter Gotreaux.

Notes

  • The win in the first contest of the day gave the Orange and Blue its eighth consecutive victory on top of its fifth straight series win, with the former streak being a new season-best.
