Wildcats Top Performers:

  • Tyler McKenna must have forgotten to eat his Wheaties Friday morning as instead he ate the pitchers alive. He had a humble beginning by going 2-for-4 versus the Cougars before waking up to smash the Knights with a 4-of-5 showing in which he drove in six RBIs on a pair of doubles plus an opposite way two-run dinger down the right field line, scoring twice in the process. All-in-all, the Dayton State CC and New Orleans transfer hit .667 in nine at-bats while totaling bases.

  • Cy Fontenot was fantastic against USF, leaving the game after five full shutout innings that saw only one base hit given up and seven Cougs sat down on strikes. Unfortunately, the comeback rendered his gem a no decision.

  • Six different players logged multi-hit games against either USF or SUNO including McKenna:

        * Adrian Aguilar – two singles, sacrifice fly, two runs scored

        * Caleb Duhon – two doubles, walk, three runs scored, sacrifice fly, two RBIs

        * Nicholas Brunet – 2-for-4, double, RBI, run scored, hit-by-pitch (vs. USF only)

        * Braden Trull – two doubles, RBI, walk

        * Harrison Waxley – two singles, double, stolen base

  • Braxton Cooksey improved to 2-0 in his fourth appearance, ceding just a two-run homer in the first before settling down to get through four and wiped out the visitors from New Orleans with swing-and-miss stuff as nine of his 12 outs came on whiffs (75%).

  • Andrew Yuratich followed right behind his starter and continued to mow down the Knights, breezing through three frames in relief while leaving a trail of six SUNO batters flailing for punchouts as he surrendered just one single and nothing else.

  • Finally, Coleman Haltom ended the evening with a stress-free final three outs, fanning one and putting the ballgame into the win column.

Next:

  • Head Coach Mike Byrnes and the men will attempt to finish what they started on Friday when they host the Cougars from USF one last time to complete the tournament at approximately 3 p.m. or half-hour after the noon contest concludes.
