12/23/2024 2:33:00 PM

FARGO, N.D. – The Louisiana Christian University football program has now had three student-athletes, and one former Head Coach earn VSN NAIA All-American honors in the past two seasons as running back Daylon Charles became the latest to join an elite club at LCU, marking the 19th time a player has earned the distinction during the modern era (2000 – Present).

Charles, a senior from Gueydan, Louisiana, was listed among Victory Sports Network's All-American Honorable Mentions in their release on Monday morning, one year after the trio of Sal Palermo III, Pop McGhee, and Drew Maddox landed accolades by the same publication in 2023.

The new single-season rushing touchdowns record holder (19) and rushing yards runner-up (1,227, second to Wayne Davis' 1,368 in 2003) finished sixth in the nation for the former and eighth regarding the latter in addition to top-15 marks in terms of rushing yards per game (111.5) and carries (204), top-30 among all NAIA backs in yards per carry (6.0) and all-purpose yards (1,254), plus top-35 showings for longest rush (76) as well as all-purpose yards per game (114.0).

The former Lake Arthur High School product topped the Sooner Athletic Conference in rush yards per contest, total rush yards, and carries while ending up second behind only VSN NAIA All-American Second Teamer Ernest Ceasar from Texas Wesleyan in the rest of the statistical categories.

The bowling ball of a ballcarrier wrapped up his time on "The Hill" by playing in 43 career contests, handled the pigskin 441 times, gaining 2,615 yards on the ground, finding paydirt 29 times with his legs and twice through the air, averaged 5.9 yards per tote, and compiled over 3,000 all-purpose yards (3,240) in his four years donning the Orange and Blue.
