Wildcats Top Performers:
Â
- Trent Ginn did something nobody had done in three seasons against ABC, taking a punt all the way back to the house, as the ULM transfer went 51 yards to paydirt and opened the floodgates that began the ensuing rout. He finished the day with three returns for a 27-yard average (81 total) and caught one pass as a wideout.
Â
                  * The last punt return touchdown prior to Ginn's was 58-yarder by Me'kyle Franklin on November 13, 2021 versus Texas College in the season finale.Â
Â
- Trace McHugh was a jack-of-all-trades for the defense, jumping on a pair of Arkansas Baptist fumbles, blocking a punt deep in Buffaloes territory, and registering a season-best six tackles.
Â
- Jayce Johnson burst onto the scene with authority in his first opportunity in uniform for a collegiate contest, bursting through the line for the longest gain from scrimmage by a Wildcat this season, scoring from 79 yards out and averaging a preposterous 23 yards per rush with 92 on four carries.
Â
- Daylon Charles did Daylon Charles things, taking 14 totes for 135 yards and a pair of scores as he picked up chunk yardage over and over again, nearly going for a first down each time he touched the rock (9.6 YPC).
Â
- While the ground game was chugging right along, Ethan Christman took advantage of the crowded boxes by finding the end zone twice on three receptions, piling up 82 yards (27.3 YPC) in the process.
Â
- Logan Brimmer logged the game's lone sack as he brought down Aiden Shiebe for a 13-yard loss, hurrying him twice on dropbacks and picking up another TFL in addition to a campaign-most half-dozen tackles.
Â
- River Thompson converted 42.9% of his completions into six points, going 7-of-12 (58.3%) for 115 yards and three TDs plus a 2024-high of 26 yards with his legs.
                     * One of those completions went to the unlikeliest of sources; the 6-foot-6, 385-pound offensive lineman
Ryan Richard; who rumbled his way for 11 receiving yards. Â
Â
- Jahiem Mitchell was absolutely sticky in coverage, tying his career-high for the third time this year with three passes defended while Pop McGhee extended his PBU streak up to 21 consecutive games.
Â
- Jaden Jones led the team in tackles at seven (five solo), Kristian Doyle became the second defender to block an Arkansas Baptist punt after getting a piece of one in the third quarter, and each of Ronal Patin Jr. / Noah James had a pass breakup apiece.
Â
- Terrance Williams Jr. nearly broke away for a kickoff return touchdown by bringing the ball back 50 yards while Trace Williams collected his first career touchdown on a 19-yard reception.
Â
- Datlan Cunningham and EJ Scott ran in their third and second scores of the season on hand-offs, respectively, with Cunningham picking up 74 hard-earned yards rushing.
Â
Â
- Levi Hilborn did what was asked of him, cashing in a 40-yard field goal on top of all nine PAT attempts and averaging 39.7 yards per punt, one being downed at the ABC one-yard line.
Â
Next:
Â
- The Gridiron Cats will recognize its Seniors prior to the 2 p.m. kickoff against the currently #9 Rams on Saturday, looking to send their teammates off into the sunset by halting 2024 SAC Champion Texas Wesleyan's bid for an undefeated regular season.
