#5 Men’s Soccer Upends #4 Texas A&M-San Antonio In PK Shootout

 
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Louisiana Christian University men's soccer program took part in a penalty kick shootout for the first time in its 27th season during the RRAC Quarterfinals and it resulted in quite possibly the most entertaining 0-0 tie in team history, winning by a count of 7-6 in PKs leading to a raucous celebration as the Wildcats survive the Jaguars and move onto the RRAC Semifinals in hopes of a repeat.

  • Rodrigo Silva was the star for Head Coach David Castillo, saving five over the 110 minutes of combined time between regulation and the two ten-minute overtime periods, then stonewalling three of the nine shot attempts in the shootout to give the Cats just enough of an edge to win.
   
  • Amoros Navarro was the only student-athlete to get multiple looks at the net during the normal style of gameplay, placing two shots-on-goal.

  • Silva landed himself on the top-ten leaderboard for career saves, knocking both Eric Post (2007, 2009-11) and Jayson Stewart down a peg to tenth on the totem pole as he has now snatched up 121 saves.
 
Team 
 
  • The club's 293 shots moved them ahead of 2023's total for the second-highest all-time and their pair of corner kicks broke the tie for the crown with the fall of 2021 team as they have 104.
 
Season 
 
  • Navarro tied with Oscar Giron (2007) for fourth place on the shots list at 48 on top of third in terms of SOG (29) and Sao Tiago is in a stalemate regarding sixth on that same leaderboard of 46.

  • The Wildcats' "boogeyman", the #19 and top-seeded LSU Shreveport Pilots, are the only thing standing in their way for back-to-back Championship appearances, going down on the turf of Judy Kelley Morgan Field at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
