TEXARKANA, Texas – The Louisiana Christian University men's and women's soccer programs each made their way to the championship host site on the backs of their star players with the champions (guys) being awarded four selections including back-to-back Tournament MVP
Adrian Amoros Navarro while the semifinalists (ladies) got a pair on the RRAC All-Tournament Team.
Â
Amoros Navarro has been a wizard with the ball his entire career and has always had a clutch gene that can't be taught, as the kids say nowadays "he's got that dawg in him". Â He was responsible for three of the club's five points in the Championship match vs. Xavier (goal and assist) while placing 5-of-7 (71.4%) shots he took on-target over the three games.
Â
Gabriel Zuniga never left the pitch and helped the defense pitch a scoreless postseason, playing all 290 minutes of game time while his make in the penalty kick shootout turned into the winner.
Â
Sergio Pita Martin was held out of the stat sheet throughout the entirety of the tournament, a completely different story compared to his epic run in 2023, but his mere presence was enough for opponents to lean coverage to his side of the field, opening up lanes for the rest of the position players.
Â
Rodrigo Silva, to use a basketball term, turned in the "Michael Jordan" of postseason excellence, putting a lock on the goal and throwing the key into the Red River as he did not yield one single score over three-and-a-half matches when counting the two overtime periods plus shootout in the quarters. He made 11 saves in total and countless other stops that won't show up in the stat sheet while holding off Texas A&M-San Antonio's PK shooters just enough to survive and advance.
Â
On the women's end of the bracket, captain
Allie Kyle displayed field awareness and a knack for the ball in an effort to keep the Saints and Gold Nuggets at bay, showing why she has a case for the most dominant defender the club ever deployed.
Â
Maria Alonso hung up her cleats at the top of her game, improving every season while in Pineville, eventually leading to one of the more balanced all-around statistical campaigns at LCU, getting off three shots in their pair of tournament tilts, two on-goal.
