Shorthanded Wildcats Upend Jarvis Christian

LCU Goes Down to 10-Men Early, Still Find Winner Rain-Delayed Road Finale

HAWKINS, Texas – The Louisiana Christian University men's soccer team played the final 69 minutes with just 10 men, but the defense held strong and a second half goal held up in a 1-0 win over the Jarvis Christian Bulldogs Thursday evening at Wendon L. Blair Field.

The Wildcats (5-8-1, 3-6-1 RRAC) went down to 10 men in the 21st minute thanks to a straight red card, putting LCU at a disadvantage for the remainder of the contest.

However, the LCU defense kept Jarvis Christian (1-12-2, 1-7-2 RRAC) off the board for the remainder of the first half even as the Bulldogs sent seven shots towards the Wildcat goal in the opening 45 minutes. At the break, both teams were still looking for the opening goal.

LCU's moment came early in the second half as Juan Sierra was able to find Aran Hernandez Vivar, who beat the Bulldog goalkeeper to put the Wildcats ahead in the 52nd minute.

From then on, it was all defense for the Wildcats, trying to make that goal stand up. LCU was able to do just that, fighting off four Bulldog shots in the second half to earn the win in the match which the threat of severe weather had delayed from its originally scheduled date of Oct. 18.

Hernandez Vivar and Ezra Williams took LCU's two shots in the match, both of which were on frame. Hernandez Vivar's goal was his 11th of the season. Sierra's assist on the goal was his fourth of 2025.

Ricardo Gross (3-5-1) picked up his second clean sheet of the season as he made three saves to earn the shutout, getting a little assistance from his defense as one of the Jarvis shots had to be cleared off the line by a Wildcat defender. Gross faced 11 total shots from the Bulldogs, four of which were on frame.

The Wildcats will complete their 2025 season Saturday as #7 LSU Shreveport comes to Pineville for the final match of the regular season. Kickoff of Saturday's match against the league-leading and nationally ranked Pilots (12-0-5, 10-0 RRAC) is set for 3 p.m. at Wildcat Field.
