Volleyball Will Be Fourth Seed In RRAC Tournament After Split At Paul Quinn

 
DALLAS, Texas – The Louisiana Christian University volleyball program went the distance in Friday's match and claimed the fourth seed in the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament in the process during a 3-2 victory before falling by a 3-1 count on Saturday afternoon.
 
This will be the third year in-a-row that Head Coach Brittany Salloum has led her team to the postseason, each time being the fourth squad in the field.

  • Six Wildcats set either career or season-highs over the weekend, the most prominent of which were Katie Spell's, who racked up a personal-best 22.5 points (4.5 p/s) and 20 kills (4.0 p/s) in the five-set nail-biting triumph.
 
                    * Spell added 11 digs (2.2 p/s) for her second double-double of the year and the ninth of her career. 

                    * Finally, the senior from nearby Arlington led the Orange and Blue in overall points and kills at PQC, totaling 34.5 (3.8 p/s) of the former plus 28 (3.1 p/s) of the latter.  
 
  • The other student-athlete to accumulate career numbers was Dynasty Brown, going on the offensive with 10.5 points (3.5 p/s) and 10 kills (3.3 p/s) on top of three digs (1.0 p/s) for new benchmarks in all of them on Friday, her first ever match with double-figures on the attack.
 
  • Multnomah transfer Summer Martin had her best showing of her debut campaign on "The Hill", collecting 11 points (2.8 p/s) and 10 kills (2.5 p/s) courtesy of hitting .304.
 
  • Emma Cother was dynamite in Dallas, lofting a 2024-most 49 assists (9.8 p/s) and digging up 15 balls (3.0 p/s) for double-double number 29 in the victory followed by another 34 assists (8.5 p/s) and 12 digs (3.0 p/s) in the Saturday setback to give the setter her 30th of her tenure.
 
  • Kierra Jones threw a block party in the Big D, notching a campaign-high seven in just four sets (1.8 p/s) in the loss and four more blocks (0.8 p/s) in the win as she amassed 11 (1.2 p/s) against the Tigers.
 
  • The final Cat to set a personal-record was Mallory Wills with three digs apiece in each game.
 
  • Leah Stamps averaged 3.3 digs per set for an end of weekend tally of 30, the best among her teammates while Jessica Smith led the way regarding service aces at five (0.6 p/s).

Career 
 
  • Stamps became the program's all-time sets played leader at 361 and moved into third on the matches played list by appearing in her 102nd contest.
 
  • Wills landed in the tenth spot regarding both total blocks (39) and block assists (32), doing so in just her first year.
 
  • Jones and Cother also moved up one spot on the matches and sets leaderboard, to 90 / 255, respectively.
 
Team 
 
  • This 2024 team has now become the top Cat in every single category after its double date at Paul Quinn, adding their name to the first slot for both digs (1,591) and solo blocks (53).
 
Season 
 
  • Both Spell (275.5) and Jones (265.5) surpassed the previous program record for most points in a single-season as they are now sitting at first and second while Spell rose to third on the kills ladder (227).
 
  • Smith is up to sixth in terms of service aces (28) for a campaign and Cother is now fifth (308) on the digs list.
 
Game (Team)
 
  • Friday's match is now seventh in the team's record books for blocks (9) and tenth for assists (54).
 
Game (Individual)
 
  • Spell was incredible, piling up the third-highest point total in program history at 22.5 and the second-most kills ever with 20.
 
  • Cother tallied the fifth-best assist mark of all-time (49) while Jones ended up in second on the total blocks single-match ladder (7).
 
Next:
  
  • The #4 seed Wildcats will battle the #5 seed Tigers of Paul Quinn College for the third straight meeting at 10:30 a.m. on Friday and the second straight season in the RRAC 1st Round in San Antonio on the campus of Our Lady of the Lake University.
