Volleyball Advances To Semifinals For Third Straight Year, Season Ends There

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Louisiana Christian University volleyball program are a perfect 3-0 (100%) all-time in the RRAC Tournament's First Round but have yet to get over the hump into the Championship Game, falling one step shy for the third consecutive season to the regular season champions.

Wildcats Top Performers:

  • Abby Revell decided to set some career-highs during her second-to-last match, leading the Cats Cavalry with 20 points and 16 kills along with her only service ace of her final campaign.

  • Kierra Jones might not have had career-type numbers, but she did ball out in an instant classic against the Tigers, keeping the dream alive for a few more hours courtesy of a season-best 16 points and six digs on top of ten kills, four solo blocks and a pair of aces.

  • Katie Spell was tearing up both ends of the hardwood, registering her tenth career double-double in the First Round by posting a season-most 14 digs and clubbing 13 kills

  • Leah Stamps was the last one to set 2024 personal benchmark opposite PQC as put together her third multi-ace outing of the year in addition to a Wildcat-high 20 digs.

  • Emma Cother ends 2024 sitting on 31 career double-doubles after dropping 39 assists and 14 digs in the opening game while barely squeaking through the entire season with at least ten assists in all 33 contests as she reached that exact number vs. Texas A&M-Texarkana.

Record Book Watch:

Career

  • If LCU had made the Championship Game, Stamps would have sole possession of both the record for most sets played (369) and matches played, since they fell in the semis, she will have to settle for a three-way tie for first in the latter category as her 104 contests join Paris Babino (2017-21) and Sadi Jones (2017-21) on the top step.

  • Revell made a bunch of drastic moves as she closed out her fifth and final non-consecutive campaign on "The Hill", jumping to third for solo blocks (16), sixth for matches played (90), seventh for total blocks (53), and ninth for sets played (259).

  • Spell rose into the top-five regarding service aces at 64 and will conclude her time as a Wildcat with exactly 100 career blocks.

  • Both Mallory Wills and Cother slid into ninth on the ladder in terms of solo blocks (9) and matches played (77), respectively.

Season

  • Spell (297.5) and Jones' (289.5) 2024 final point totals will endure after graduation as the best and second-best single-season marks in team history while Campbell's 244.5 will be at sixth moving forward.

  • Spell also barely eclipsed Jaslyn Bright's 2018 season for the most kills, laying down the boom 245 times, Campbell had the third-highest tally (230), and Revell's huge postseason catapulted her onto the leaderboard into ninth (208).

  • Being a deadly team from the service line all season, its no surprise that the 2024 iteration of the Cats is littered throughout the top-ten of that category including Cother's 37 (2nd), Jones' 32 (5th), Jessica Smith's 28 (6th), Madison Danley's 27 (7th), and Spell's 26 (10th).

  • Cother makes one last appearance, this time on the digs list as she had the fourth-highest amount in 2024 with 327.

Game (Team)

  • The Orange and Blue as a whole recorded 88 digs and eight solo swats in the win over Paul Quinn, putting those numbers at the seventh / second-most all-time.

Game (Individual)

  • Revell's 20 points pulled her into a stalemate with six other student-athletes on the final rung of that ladder, the third time in the last two weeks that an LCU player topped that threshold, the other two instances being by Spell.

Next:

  • The season has come to an end with Louisiana Christian finishing in fourth place with an overall record of 15-18 (45.5%) and 8-8 (50%) in the Red River, picking up double-digit victories for the third consecutive campaign and tying the 2023 squad for the most wins in team history.
