Huston-Tillotson Takes Five-Set Marathon Match

 
PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Christian University volleyball program competed in what quite possibly was the longest match in school history on Friday night with first serve at 7 p.m. and the final point being scored around 9:30 p.m. as the Rams of Huston-Tillotson went the distance to knock off the Cats, 3-2.
 
The contest marked the 24th time that the team has played a five-setter, dropping to 8-16 (33.3%) overall and 3-12 (20%) in conference play during those scenarios.

Wildcats Top Performers: 
 
  • Emma Cother put together her 12th double-double of the season and 27th of her career with a season-best 44 assists (8.80 p/s) plus 13 digs (2.60 p/s) in addition to a 2024-high of three blocks.
 
  • Kierra Jones was impressive on the evening, exploding for a season-most 13 kills (2.60 p/s) and just one error for a sizzling .414 hitting percentage.
 
  • Freshman Angelina Medrano has watched her role expand exponentially as the campaign has progressed and she repaid Coach Salloum with a personal-best of 14 digs (3.50 p/s), the first time she has eclipsed double-figures.
 
  • Another first-year, Jenna Seilhan, also made her biggest defensive impression of the season by recording six digs (1.50 p/s).
 
  • Abby Revell was the kill queen for the Orange and Blue, notching 14 (2.80 p/s) to pace the club with Katie Spell also reaching double-digits at ten (2.50 p/s).
 
  • Leah Stamps dug up the most balls off the hardwood on either side, tallying a match-most 23 (4.60 p/s) while Jessica Smith collected LCU's only ace.
 
Record Book Watch:
 
Career 
 
  • Stamps is now second on the team's all-time sets played leaderboard at 348, passing Paris Babino (2017-21) and is only seven away from the lead held by Sadi Jones (2017-21).
 
  • On the matches side of the coin, Spell tied for eighth place in that category by appearing in her 77th tilt.
 
Team 
 
  • Four different program records were rewritten vs. HTU as the unit has now racked up the most points (1,316), kills (1,110), assists (920), and blocks (139) in one year.
 
Season 
 
  • Piggybacking off that topic, both Cother and Stamps became the all-time single-season leader regarding assists (768) and digs (397), respectively.
 
  • Mallory Wills and Spell are each tied with Michelle Iroh (2022) for seventh on the blocks list at 33.
 
  • The duo of Kate Campbell and Smith are now on the tenth rung of their ladders, the former for points (224.5) and the latter in terms of aces (23).
 
Game 
 
  • In spite of the longevity, only one match statistic cracked the top-ten as the offense's 175 attack attempts slot ninth all-time.
