San Antonio Bound: Volleyball Locks Up Third Straight Trip To Postseason

 
PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Christian University volleyball program is headed to the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament for the third year in-a-row after toppling the Huston-Tillotson Rams on Senior Day.
 
After missing the dance its first five seasons as a varsity squad, Head Coach Brittany Salloum has commandeered back-to-back-to-back postseason appearances.

Wildcats Top Performers: 
 
  • Senior Katie Spell saved her best performance for her last on "The Hill", destroying the Rams on both sides of the ball with a career-high 20.5 points (5.13 p/s) and five blocks (1.25 p/s) on top of a season-best four aces (1.00 p/s), accounting for all of the Wildcats' points from the service line.
 
  • The Arlington, Texas native put on a show for her family and friends in attendance, hitting the ball at a .412 clip while also collecting eight digs (2.00 p/s) and two assists (0.50 p/s).
 
  • Fellow senior Kate Campbell popped off a career-best as well, smoking a match-best 15 kills (3.75 p/s).
 
  • A non-senior student-athlete that had a career morning was Jessica Smith, tallying a dozen digs (3.00 p/s) plus a season-most six assists (1.50 p/s).
 
  • Graduate student Abby Revell had a strong swan song too, racking up 13 kills (3.25 p/s) and a trio of digs (0.75 p/s).
 
  • Senior Kierra Jones provided a glimpse of what she was best known for throughout her tenure, versatility and blocking, registering five kills (1.25 p/s), four digs (1.00 p/s) and three blocks (0.75 p/s).
 
  • The fifth and final senior, Megan O'Neal, had been injured but was able to suit up for one last play with her family decked out in shirts with her #12 emblazoned on them in the stands, serving for a final time midway through the third set.
 
  • While she was not honored pregame (her ceremony was in 2023), Leah Stamps also made a curtain call donning the Orange and Blue, surpassing the 20 dig-mark for the third consecutive match, going for 21 (5.25 p/s).
 
  • Mallory Wills struck with precision Saturday morning, dropping eight kills (2.00 p/s) on the Rams defense over 14 attacks and zero errors for a beautiful .571 hitting percentage.
 
  • Emma Cother logged her third double-double in her last four contests by putting 41 assists (10.25 p/s) and 16 digs (4.00 p/s) in the book in addition to tying her season-high of three kills (0.75 p/s).
 
Record Book Watch:
 
Career 
 
  • Smith reclaimed the tenth spot from Madison Danley on the career digs leaderboard heading into the final weekend of the regular season, scooching past Danley (303) at 305 now.
 
Team 
 
  • The Cats broke their fifth team record of the season versus HTU, crowning themselves the best service aces team ever assembled by LCU with 168.
 
Season 
 
  • Jones soared all the way from ninth to fifth on the single-season points ledger, compiling 242.5 so far in 2024, while Spell (241) and Campbell (239.5) sit at seventh and eighth, respectively.
 
  • Campbell also made a huge rise up the ladder from seventh to third on the kills leaderboard as she has 225 while Spell added her name to the bottom of the board as she's tied for ninth (199).
 
  • Lastly, both Spell (38) and Wills (36) are neck-and-neck on the blocks list as they rest on fifth and sixth.
 
Game (Team) 
 
  • The ladies came out of the blocks on fire and kept their hot streak going en route to the tenth-highest hitting percentage ever recorded, tying their win over Wiley in September by sporting a .297.
 
Game (Individual) 
 
  • Spell wrote her name not once, but twice into the match portion of the record book, tying with Aniah Adams (9/21/19) for the seventh-highest point total (20.5) and joining three current plus two former players in ninth for block assists (5).
 
Next:
  
  • With the RRAC Tournament spot sewn up, they now turn towards their seeding as they travel to Dallas for its final two matches of the regular season on Friday (7 p.m.) and Saturday (12 p.m.) at Paul Quinn.
