NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Louisiana Christian University volleyball program broke a string of 21 consecutive set losses to XULA, dating back to their first ever meeting on September 18,  2021, by taking the opening game, but could not keep the Gold Nuggets down for long as the home team took the next three during a 3-1 defeat.

Wildcats Top Performers: 

  • Emma Cother was the top Cat in both assists (26, 6.50 p/s) as well as digs (16, 4.00 p/s), giving the setter her eighth double-double of the season and 24th of her career with a pair of aces and a kill on her line too.

  • Kierra Jones does everything and then some for Coach Salloum, knocking down a season-best seven blocks (1.75 p/s) while being a certified weapon at the service line with a career-high five aces (1.25 p/s) on top of two kills (0.50 p/s), a dig (0.25 p/s) plus an assist (0.25 p/s).

  • Katie Spell logged a personal-record of four blocks (1.00 p/s) on Friday evening in addition to a club-topping ten kills (2.50 p/s) and a lucky seven's worth of digs (1.75 p/s).

  • Megan O'Neal barely missed out on joining Spell in the double-digit kill club, going for nine (2.25 p/s) on the night courtesy of a squad-best .292 hitting percentage.

  • Jessica Smith logged two assists to slide into fifth on the all-time list at 105, leaving A'Qia Chambers (2018) in her wake.

  • Spell tallied her tenth solo block to move up to a tie for fourth.

  • Jones' monster day as a server reaped the benefits as she rocketed up to fifth on the leaderboard with 56 as a Wildcat.

Team

  • In the Big Easy, the Orange and Blue climbed to fourth in single-season service aces (123) and fifth regarding kills (670).

Season

  • Cother has registered 27 aces in 2024, tied for fourth-most at LCU while Jones leapt onto the list, debuting at number seven (23).

Game

  • LCU swatted away nine total blocks versus Xavier, 12 assists and three solos, which is the sixth-highest mark in club history.

  • Jones, a NOLA native, entered her name three more times in the record books for single-match showings; ninth-most service aces (5), third-best number of block assists (6), and the second-highest total block tally (7).
