#25 Men’s Soccer Clips Houston-Victoria Behind Lima’s Goal

ALEXANDRIA, La. – The Louisiana Christian University men's soccer program might have had to spend Homecoming off-campus, but they adapted and celebrated the occasion in their own way, improving to 10-2-2 (7-1-1 Red River) and keeping pace among the top-heavy standings by declawing the UHV Jaguars, 1-0.

Wildcats Top Performers:

  • Lucas Lima was the offensive hero for LCU, scoring the match's only goal in approximately the 82nd minute (no scoreboard was available) for his sixth career net finder.

  • Freshman Gunner Blanchard picked the opportune time to record his first career point, feeding Lima the ball for the assist on top of getting two shots launched.

  • Rodrigo Silva logged a perfect weekend, shutting out yet another adversary for career clean sheet number 15.5, saving both of the visitors' on-target attempts.

  • Adrian Amoros Navarro is the program's shot king, and he held true to his reputation, leading all players with five shots (fourth time with five-plus this season) including two on-goal.

  • Shakeem Walters put together his second consecutive outing with multiple-SOG (2) while Tarik Abdala contributed a shot in back-to-back games after not having one prior to the week.

Record Book Watch:

Career

  • Lima got on the scoreboard in Alexandria and the leaderboard in the record books, knocking Sao Tiago (2024) and Doug Jackson (2009) off the bottom of the career points list while placing himself in tenth with 21.

  • The Brazilian captain's shot also put him in a three-way tie for tenth on the all-time SOG list, giving him 31 to join Raffi Ferreira (2011-13) and Doug Jackson (2009).

Team

  • With its fourth double-digit win season in-a-row locked down, the Cats will be gunning for the top spot, currently slotting in with the third-best mark at ten wins and two ties.

  • Blanchard's assist upped the season total to the quarter-century level (25), tying with the 2022 team for third-highest.

  • In the two shutouts over Huston-Tillotson and Houston-Victoria, the men from Pineville made a meteoric rise up the single-year shots taken leaderboard, going from non-existent to sixth at 229 while they had a modest improvement regarding on-target attempts moving from ninth to seventh with 105.

  • Speaking of goose eggs in the goal column, it was the squad's sixth zero of the season, tying them for the second-most as five of those six have come in the past six contests.

Season

  • Silva's 5.5 shutouts put him only behind his 2023 season for the most in program history after his fifth blank sheet in the last six tries.

  • Amoros Navarro launched himself up to sixth on the single-season shots board, taking 44 shots off his cleats.

Game

  • Despite the lone score, the opportunity for a much-bigger win presented itself as the Cats received ten corner kicks, the eighth-most in a single match.

Next:

  • The 25th-ranked Wildcats will find out on Wednesday if they are to remain in the polls for another two weeks, but their focus has now shifted west for a date with the conference's other Jaguar squad, Texas A&M-San Antonio, at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the Alamo City.
