Dogs Rally Past Cats With Second Half Surge Despite McGhee’s 20 Points

 
HAWKINS, Texas – The Louisiana Christian University men's basketball program knocked down a season-most eight triples, and the defense allowed a season-low 20.8% three-point percentage, 22 field goals, and ten assists, but JCU stormed back from a 14-point second half deficit to stun the visitors from Pineville in a 67-65 decision.

Wildcats Top Performers: 
 
  • Jon'Quarius McGhee was a sparkplug off the bench for the Cats, pouring in a team-high 20 points on a season-best seven field goals (7-for-10, 70%), a game/season-most three blocks, and personal benchmarks for three-pointers (3) as well as rebounds (7).
 
  • Omarion Layssard returned to the lineup with a bang, going 6-of-10 (60%) for 14 points in 21 minutes on top of four boards.
 
  • Gary Smith hit double-figures in the scoring department with ten while setting career-bests for both assists (6) and steals (3), each contest-bests.
 
  • Jude Akabueze was the only student-athlete on either side to notch ten rebounds, hitting that exact number to go along with eight points.
 
  • Elsewhere on the glass, Konnor DeJean tallied a new personal benchmark for boards with five and Branthony Brown hauled himself four rebounds to give him his highest mark of 2023-24.
 
Notes:
 
  • The personal foul totals were very skewed towards Jarvis as the Wildcats picked up 21 fouls including a pair of disqualifications while the homestanding Bulldogs only had nine.
