Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Lopes’ Goal Is The Difference In Chippy Affair

PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Christian University men's soccer program had its game moved back a half-hour then nearly ruled a no contest due to two separate lightning delays but were able to hold the (RV) Williams Baptist Eagles off the scoreboard and got just enough offense to squeak by one-nil.

It was a very physical, defensive tussle between two teams expected to compete for a conference title, cobbling together 30 combined fouls plus four yellows.

Wildcats Top Performers:

  • Thiago Lopes was the hero for the Wildcats, pushing one past keeper Rodrigo Pina off the foot of an Adrian Amoros Navarro assist in the 31st minute for the only and deciding goal.

  • It was Lopes' first collegiate goal while Amoros Navarro moved to within one of double-digits at nine.

  • Rodrigo Silva might have only made two saves, but he kept numerous opportunities at bay with aggressive tactics, leading to his first career shutout in his fourth consecutive complete game.

Notes:

  • LCU had the same number of shot attempts as WBU, however, the Wildcats were able to place an extra five shots on-target.

Next:

  • Time for practice, rest, and recovery for the Cats as they will not play their next contest until Saturday, September 16 at 7:30 p.m. against crosstown rival LSU Alexandria in the Red River Athletic Conference opener.
