WACO, Texas – The Louisiana Christian University football program keeps watching the accolades roll in as shutdown corner Pop McGhee was selected to the NAIA / AFCA (American Football Coaches Association) All-American squad as a Second Team representative.
McGhee, a junior from Opelousas, Louisiana, was the national leader in pass breakups, knocking away 16 potential catches in the 11-game season while being one of three Wildcats with multiple interceptions including Jahiem Mitchell and SAC Championship Game hero Nate Sullivan.
The 6-foot 2 Graphic Design major totaled 22 tackles (19 solo) and three tackles for loss as well, entering the 2024 campaign sitting on 29 passes defensed in addition to six interceptions for his 24-contest career.
The Wildcats have now produced All-Americans in each of the past two seasons along with three in the past four years since Head Coach Drew Maddox took over the helm joining Micah Latin (2022 NAIA 1st Team All-American) and teammate Devin Briscoe (Spring 2021 D3Football.com 2nd Team All-American).
Safeties Coach Josh Graham and Defensive Coordinator / Secondary Coach Tyson Andrus made sure it was a team effort by the entire secondary as he was flanked on all sides by All-SAC performers Tyren Young, Bennie Clark III, Cole Jones, and D'Mario Weathersby.
As a unit, the defensive backfield finished 13th in the nation for passing yards allowed per game (160.4) on top of racking up ten picks and 63 pass breakups combined.
