Volleyball Overcomes Sluggish Start To Slide Past Southwest (New Mexico)

 
PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Christian University volleyball program heads into its second consecutive Red River Athletic Conference Tournament on a high note, securing its first winning record in conference play (9-7, .562) with a series sweep over University of the Southwest 3-1.

Wildcats Top Performers:
 
  • Katie Spell set a new season-high for blocks with a match-best three while also setting the pace on offense with a game-most 13 kills (3.25 p/s) as well as a half-dozen digs (1.50 p/s).
 
  • Kate Campbell was Spell's running mate at the top of the kills leaderboard, also smacking 13 (3.25 p/s) with zero errors for a sparkling .650 hitting percentage on 20 attacks.
 
  • Kierra Jones was also fantastic on the swing, collecting 11 kills for an even more superb .667 hitting percentage as she committed just one error on 15 attempts.
 
  • Emma Cother set up 44 assists (11.00 p/s), dug up nine digs (2.25 p/s), and was one of a trio of Wildcats with multiple service aces (2).
 
  • Leah Stamps was the contest's leader on defense, posting 15 digs (3.75 p/s) in addition to four assists (1.00 p/s) and two aces.
 
  • Aniah Adams went over the double-digit mark in kills as well, the fourth LCU student-athlete to do so, clubbing 11 (2.75 p/s) while Jessica Smith logged seven digs (1.75 p/s) and tied with Stamps/Cother for the aces crown (2).
 
Notes:
 
  • The victory improves upon its record setting season, adding another win onto its program-most (14), and raising its win percentage up to 63.6%.
 
  • The Orange and Blue concluded the regular season with a 5-5 (.500) record at home while going 7-3 (.700) away from Pineville.

  • The RRAC Tournament is next as the women head down to the Big Easy next weekend as the fourth seed, where it will play the fifth seed in the opening round/quarterfinals.
