Wildcats Drop Pair to TAMU-San Antonio

LCU Finishes San Antonio Road Trip 1-3

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Louisiana Christian University softball team struggled to get the offense going on its final day in San Antonio, and it resulted in a pair of losses as the Wildcats dropped both ends of the doubleheader against the Texas A&M – San Antonio Jaguars, 4-1 and 6-2 Saturday afternoon at the Tejeda Sports Complex.

Game 1 – Louisiana Christian 1, Texas A&M – San Antonio 4

The Wildcats fell behind after giving up a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning but tried to immediately rally in the top of the second inning. Kayla Dauthier led off with a base hit to left. She moved to second on a base hit to right by Desiree Squires. BreAnna Corkern brought her home with a double over the center fielder's head, putting two Wildcats in scoring position with one out. A shallow fly ball and a strike out retired the side and stunted the LCU rally.

TAMUSA got that run back in the bottom of the second and added an insurance run in the fifth as the Wildcats couldn't get another run across in the contest.

Desiree Squires was the only Wildcat with multiple hits in the first contest, going two for three in the contest. BreAnna Corkern went one for three with a double and a RBI. Kayla Dauthier went one for two with a walk and a run scored.

Bailey McMillian (6-4) went the distance, giving up seven hits and four runs, all earned, with three walks and two strikeouts.

Game 2 – Louisiana Christian 2, Texas A&M – San Antonio 6

The Jaguars struck for one in the second inning and opened the score up with four runs in the third, which included a bases loaded, bases clearing double with two outs. TAMUSA added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to take a 6-0 lead.

LCU was forced to rally in the top of the seventh, and got it started well enough with a leadoff base hit by KayeLea Dearmon. Desiree Squires followed that with a base hit to center, moving pinch runner Brianna Lopez to second. Now with one out, Jordan Dauthier came up with a base hit to left. The relay back in was thrown away, allowing Lopez to score and get the Wildcats on the board. Jana Taylor continued the rally with a base hit to center, scoring Squires from third and putting the tying run on the on deck circle with just one out. However, that would be as close as the Wildcats would come as a strike out and fly out ended the game.

Desiree Squires, like she did in game one, also had multiple hits in game two against the Jaguars, going two for three with a run scored. KayeLea Dearmon was also two for three in the contest. Jana Taylor went one for two with a RBI.

McKenna Gehr (0-1) got the start and threw 2.2 innings, allowing five hits and four runs, all earned, walked two and struck out two. Addison Greak gave up a hit and a walk to the two batters she faced, one of which came in to score an earned run charged back to her. Miah Broussard finished off the final 3.1 innings and gave up three hits and one run, which was earned, with five strikeouts and no walks.

The Wildcats (16-11, 5-3 RRAC) return to Texas on Monday to make up a previously rain delayed conference doubleheader against Jarvis Christian. First pitch of game one Monday against the Bulldogs (15-10, 3-3 RRAC) is set for 1:00 P.M. at the Jarvis Christian Softball Field.
