JACKSON, Miss. – Just like the golden goal from Saturday,
Alvaro Tudanca stepped into a free kick and beat the goalkeeper to score, but a late assault by the Louisiana College men's soccer team couldn't produce an equalizing goal as the Wildcats' five-match win streak came to an end in a 2-1 loss to former conference foe Belhaven Tuesday night at the Belhaven Bowl Stadium.
The run of play was in the Wildcats offensive end for a good portion of the contest, but it was on the counterattack where the Blazers found success, which is how Belhaven picked up the match's first goal in the 20
th minute. Belhaven took a 1-0 lead into the halftime locker room.
Belhaven added a second in the 51
st minute as a shot bounced off the post, only to come right back to another Blazer who tapped into the open goal for a 2-0 Belhaven lead.
LC didn't take long to respond to the second goal as the Wildcats won a free kick from several yards outside of the box. In the 55
th minute,
Alvaro Tudanca stepped up to the ball and just like Saturday night and found the back of the net with the direct free kick to cut the deficit back down to a single goal at 2-1.
The goal seemed to reinvigorate the Wildcats, who were on the offensive footing for most of the remainder of the match as the hunt for the equalizer was on. LC had numerous chances at the goal over the final 35 minutes, including an 82
nd minute shot by
Adrian Amoros Navarro that seemed destined to roll inside of the left post only to be covered up by the Blazer goalkeeper at the final moment before crossing the goal line, taking away LC's final shot on goal in the contest.
Alvaro Tudanca's goal was his third of the season as he's now scored in two straight matches for the Wildcats. Tudanca took three shots in the match and put two on target.
Adrian Amoros Navarro put both shots he took in the contest on frame.
Arturo Riestra Torrejon took two shots as well with one on target. As a team, the Wildcats took 13 total shots in the match with six on target.
Joaquín Bauta Pérez (1-1) played all 90 minutes in net for the Wildcats and faced seven total shots from the Blazers with five being on frame. Bauta Pérez was credited with three saves in the match.
The Wildcats (4-1) look to get back to their winning ways on Saturday against another familiar foe from the NCAA Division III days, Millsaps College. Kickoff of Saturday's match against the Majors (1-2) is set for 7:00 P.M. at Harper Davis Field.
