Wildcats Rout Majors Behind Five First Half Goals

Riestra Torrejon Scores Twice as LC Ends Non-Conference Play with Big Win

JACKSON, Miss. – The final tune-up match before conference play for the Louisiana College men's soccer team couldn't have gone much better for the Wildcats as LC scored five first half goals and rolled to a 6-0 win over the Millsaps Majors Saturday night at Harper Davis Field.

LC needed less than five minutes to get on the board as Jason Rodriguez sent a ball into the box that Arturo Riestra Torrejon got on the end of and slotted home for the first goal of the match.

Riestra Torrejon got onto a brace in the 21st minute as he worked his way around several Millsaps defenders into the box and beat the Majors goalkeeper for his second goal of the match and a 2-0 LC lead.

Three minutes later, LC got its third goal off a set piece. Following a Millsaps foul, Diego Valenzuela Ramirez stepped into a free kick that Seth Collins got on the end of and scored to make the score 3-0 Wildcats.

The scoring spree continued just five minutes later as João Pedro Giraldez Franco slipped a pass through to Adrian Amoros Navarro, whose shot found the back of the net for the 4-0 LC lead.

LC's final goal of the first half came off a bit of a lucky bounce as Jason Rodriguez's corner kick clipped the cross bar and bounced to the foot of Enrique Güerri Alcalá, who tapped the ball into the net for the match's fifth goal, which came in the 39th minute.

Nangee Philip closed out the scoring in the 81st minute as Shakeem Walters fed a perfect through ball that got to Philip behind the Majors defense and Philip beat the goalkeeper for the match's final goal.

Arturo Riestra Torrejon led the Wildcat attack with two goals, his third and fourth goals of the season, on nine shots with five on target. Nangee Philip came off the bench to score his second goal of the season as he took seven shots with four on frame. Seth Collins and Adrian Amoros Navarro both scored on their lone shots of the night. For Collins, it was his first goal of the season while Amoros Navarro tabulated his second goal of the season. João Pedro Giraldez Franco took five shots with one on frame and was credited with his second assist. Jason Rodriguez took three shots with two on target and his two assists were his second and third of the season. Diego Valenzuela Ramirez's assist was his second of the season while Shakeem Walters picked up his first assist of the year. The Wildcats took 38 shots as a team and put 20 of them on target.

Luke Craigie (1-0) picked up his first win and the team's first clean sheet of the 2021 season in his first action in net for the Wildcats. Millsaps took six shots in the match overall and put four on frame, all four of which Craigie collected for saves.

The Wildcats (5-1) now head into Red River Athletic Conference play for the first time when LC heads to Round Rock, Texas on Thursday to take on Huston-Tillotson. Kickoff against the Rams (3-1) is set for 3:30 P.M., or roughly 20 minutes following the end of the women's match, at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.
