HALLSVILLE, Texas – The Louisiana College men's soccer team got its season started about six months later than usual, but an early penalty kick was too much to overcome in a 1-0 season & conference-opening defeat to the East Texas Baptist Tigers Friday afternoon at Hallsville ISD Bobcat Stadium.
The lone goal of the game came in the 17
th minute as ETBU was awarded a penalty kick, which was converted.
LC had two good opportunities to tie the match. The first came in the 53
rd minute as a shot by
Gabriel Collins had to be taken off the line by a Tiger defender. Then, in the 65
th minute, a shot by
Arturo Riestra Torrejon was saved, but rebounded back out for
Marlon Jones to have a shot, but that too was saved.
Arturo Riestra Torrejon and
Gabriel Collins each had two shots with one on target apiece.
Marlon Jones took one shot, which was also on frame.
Caleb Cruz (0-1) played all 90 minutes in goal, picking up five saves and allowed only the PK to get beyond him.
The Wildcats (0-1, 0-1 ASC) look to get their first win of the season next Saturday on the road at Texas-Dallas. Kickoff against the Comets (0-0, 0-0 ASC) is set for 7:30 P.M. at the UTD Soccer Complex.
