PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana College men's soccer team saw one unfortunate touch go against them, and that would be their undoing in a 1-0 loss to the Belhaven Blazers Saturday evening at Wildcat Field.
The match's lone goal came in the 16
th minute as the Wildcats tried to clear a ball from the box, only to see it pop up and fall to a Blazer player who struck it into the net for the 1-0 score. LC tried to respond nearly immediately as
Marlon Jones put a shot towards the bottom left corner of the goal, but it was saved by the Blazer keeper. The Wildcats would get two late looks at goal to try and force extra time, but it was not to be.
Marlon Jones led the LC offense with three shots, two on target.
Arturo Riestra Torrejon took two shots that were both wide of goal.
Seth Collins put up one shot, which had to be saved.
Caleb Cruz was credited with four saves in the contest. Gavin Able had to fill in as the goalkeeper for about seven minutes when Cruz took a small injury that took some attending to and was not needed to make any saves during his time in net.
The Wildcats (0-2, 0-2 ASC) look for their first win of the season on Saturday when they head to Longview, Texas to take on LeTourneau. Kickoff of the match against the Yellow Jackets (3-2, 0-1 ASC) is set for 7:30 P.M. at the LETU Soccer Field.
