PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana College men's soccer team hopped on some big mistakes in the back by Jarvis Christian which resulted in enough goals to get the Wildcats to their second straight win, defeating the Bulldogs 3-1 Thursday evening at Wildcat Field.
The Wildcats forced the first big mistake early in the contest.
Nangee Philip was able to hold up play after a Bulldog player pulled down a pass. That hold up allowed
Adrian Amoros Navarro to come from the back side, dispossess the Jarvis player of the ball, and chip a shot from 37 yards out over the goalkeeper's head, who was up at the top of the 16-yard box, and into the net for a 1-0 LC lead in just the 13
th minute.
It seemed like that lead would hold through the end of the half, but the Bulldogs pulled a quick one on the Wildcats stealing the ball and scoring on the counter to level the score at 1-1 in the 43
rd minute. The match would go to the half tied at 1-1.
The match remained level until right at the 63-minute mark as
Alvaro Tudanca took in a pass and raced down the right side, moving towards the center of the field. After putting a move on a defender, the cracked a shot from just outside the top of the box inside the low left post to give the Wildcats the lead to stay at 2-1.
LC put the game away in the 81
st minute thanks to some good defense.
Jorge Duran Granados was able to fit a toe in and dispossess an attacking Jarvis player. That tap sent the ball into an open area that allowed
Nangee Philip to get onto the ball and race all alone behind the defense for more than half the field and score the match's final goal to secure the three points.
Nangee Philip took four shots with his lone shot on target representing his sixth goal of the season.
Alvaro Tudanca and
Adrian Amoros Navarro each took three shots, both put two on target and each scored a goal. For Tudanca, it was his team-leading eighth of the season while Amoros Navarro's goal was his fifth of the year. The Wildcats took 11 shots as a team in the match and put five on target.
Martin Hernandez (6-3) was credited with four saves as he picked up his sixth win in net on the season for LC. He faced a total of 19 shots from Jarvis Christian, five put on frame by the Bulldogs.
The Wildcats (9-7, 4-6 RRAC) look to close out their inaugural NAIA and RRAC campaign in style on Saturday for Homecoming and Senior Day when Texas College comes to town to finish up the 2021 regular season. Kickoff of the season ending match against the Steers (1-13, 1-9 RRAC) is set for 8:30 P.M., or about 20 minutes following the end of the women's match, at Wildcat Field.
