PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana College women's basketball team held a lead following the first quarter, but a big second quarter by LeTourneau stunted the early LC momentum as the Lady Wildcats fell to the Yellow Jackets 83-71 Saturday afternoon at H.O. West Fieldhouse.
Trailing 8-4 in the opening minutes,
Kayla Kinney stole the ball and found
ZyUnn Cormier open for a jumper that started the Wildcats on a quarter-ending 10-5 run, which was capped by another Cormier mid-range jumper, which allowed LC to take a 14-13 lead to the second quarter. LC's largest lead in the game came early in the second period as another Cormier jumper, this one just inside the free throw line, gave the Wildcats a 16-13 lead. While LeTourneau scored the next seven points to retake the lead, the Wildcats continued to hold strong, regaining the lead with just more than four minutes left before halftime as a
Jamaica James three-ball rattled home as LC erased what had been a six-point deficit to take a 25-24 lead on the back of a 7-0 run.
But that's where LC's hopes started to slip away as the Yellow Jackets finished the half on a 17-7 run to take their largest lead of the first half into the locker room at 41-32. Out of the halftime break,
Maya Washington split a pair of free throws to pull LC back within eight, but from that point on, LeTourneau slowly opened up the lead before the Wildcats closed the gap some in the game's final five minutes.
