Kinney’s Near Triple-Double Not Enough in Wildcats Loss

Sophomore Guard Finishes with 17 points, 13 Rebounds, & 7 Assists

JACKSON, Miss. – Kayla Kinney was just three assists shy of a triple-double, but the Louisiana College women's basketball team couldn't keep up with a 18 three-point night for Belhaven in the Lady Wildcats 102-70 loss to the Blazers Wednesday night at Charles R. Rugg Arena.

The Wildcats held tight throughout the beginning of the first quarter, but the Blazers used a 15-2 run late in the period to open up the lead to 29-14. LC fought back through the second quarter and cut that deficit down to as little as eight points with just more than six minutes left before halftime as ZyUnn Cormier put back her own missed shot to make it 34-26 Belhaven. The Blazers would get the lead back up to 13 points during the quarter before taking a 12-point lead into the halftime locker room.

A quick 5-0 run to open the third quarter got the Wildcats back within seven points as Maya Washington drained a three ball just more than a minute into the second half to cut it to 43-36. However, that would be LC's last push as, following a quick exchange of buckets, Belhaven went on a 22-2 run to again open the lead up, one from which the Wildcats couldn't recover.

So. G Kayla Kinney had a very strong night, finishing the game with 17 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists, and two steals. Fr. G ZyUnn Cormier finished the night with 11 points and seven rebounds. Fr. G Maya Washington rounded out the leading scorers with ten points, eight rebounds, and three steals. Jr. F Alexis Lege chipped in nine points and six rebounds. The Wildcats finished the contest hitting 31.6% from the field in the contest, and was 16 of 21 from the charity stripe, 76.2%.

The Lady Wildcats (3-14, 1-8 ASC) and Blazers (11-7, 4-5 ASC) will see each other again on Saturday, this time in Pineville, to finish off the season, home-and-home series between the two teams. Tip-off on Saturday is set for 1:00 P.M. in H.O. West Fieldhouse.
