Despite Delay Wildcats Swep McMurry

Louisiana College baseball completed their second American Southwest Conference series sweep of the season on Saturday with an 11-6 win over McMurry University. After a two-hour rain delay early in the game, the Wildcats came out with four runs as play resumed and starter Andrew Robinson showed no signs of labor after the stoppage going seven strong innings for his seventh win of the season.

The first inning and a half moved by quickly before lightning in the area started a two-hour delay that sent the teams to the locker room to wait for the all clear. On the first pitch after the resumption of play, Clayton Noakes banged a ball off the center field wall for a double and the Cats were off and running right away. He would score on a passed ball during the walk to Konner James for the first run of the game and the inning for the Cats.

A single and an error put two runners in scoring position as Ashton Martin picked up his first of three straight plate appearances with an RBI starting with a base hit, then back-to-back sacrifice flys in the third and fourth innings. Christian Vandergrift would give LC the 4-0 lead after the first with a bases loaded single to center.

McMurry got a pair of runs with 2-out in the fourth on a 2-out, 2-run single making it 5-2. The Wildcats got that back and more in the bottom of the inning with Noakes ripping a double down the left field line for a pair of RBI, and Martin's second sac fly giving the Cats the 8-2 advantage.

Up 9-2 going into the bottom of the seventh, Vandergrift drove a pitch over the left centerfield wall to give the Cats the resounding 11-2 lead late in the game. The Wildcats took advantage of their opportunities in the game at the plate and made some key defensive plays to keep McMurry off the board. A pair of double plays were huge for the Wildcats to keep the War Hawks runs to a minimum as McM out hit the Wildcats 18-14 in the game. McMurry scored four runs in the ninth as LC struggled to close out the game on the mound.

The Wildcats will travel to Abilene, Texas next weekend for an important three game series with Hardin-Simmons University.
