Wildcats Pounce on Gents Early in Win

In front of a capacity crowd on one of their biggest nights of the season, Louisiana College baseball ran away with a 10-3 win over in-state rival Centenary College on Wednesday night. The Cox Sports televised game came on the annual special Cats Crush Cancer and the Wildcats did not disappoint the home fans earning the season split with the Gents.

The Wildcats continued their early offensive prowess again on Wednesday taking the early lead with their first of three crooked number innings of the game in the bottom of the first. The first three batters of the inning reached on a single and a pair of hit by pitches. Deauton Delgado would plate the first two of the game with a ringing double to left field which was immediately followed by a double to right off the bat of Dane Pedersen to put LC up 4-0, six batters into the game.

LC starter Andrew Robinson finished his predetermined two innings of work without allowing a hit picking up a pair of strikeouts before giving way to Konner McDermott in the third. The Gents would the the first two of their three runs, thanks to a bit of sloppy play by the Wildcats namely a pair of throwing errors and a wild pitch that made it 4-2 going to the bottom of the third.

The Wildcats would get both of those runs back in the bottom of the inning though as once again the first three batters of the frame reached base for Ty Morgan to pick up his first of two RBI in the game on a sacrifice fly. Brady Atkins would bring home a run on a base hit to left and Hunter Bower would slide home on a wild pitch to put the Cats up 7-2 after three innings of play.

Centenary scored their final run of the game in the fourth on an RBI groundout, the only earned run charged to McDermott, as the rest of the Wildcat pitching staff would shut the Gents down the rest of the way. Gerlad Groue, Dylan Roark, Phillip Vidrine, and Colten Newsom each gave an inning of scoreless work with Chevy Emken giving two innings giving up just a lone hit.

The score stayed at 7-3 until the sixth inning when the Cats put the final icing on the cake with another 3-run frame. Pederson hit a sacrifice fly to center, Bower singled to right, and Morgan's second sac fly RBI made it 10-3 after six innings.

Deauton Delgado was named the Cox Sports player of the game while Atkins extended his team-best hitting streak to 15 games and Clayton Noakes his team-best on-base streak to 26 games. Robinson earned his sixth win of the year against no losses, tied for 10thmost in a single season by a Wildcat pitcher.

The Wildcats will return to American Southwest Conference play this weekend as they host McMurry University for a three game series at Billy Allgood Field. The first game of Friday's doublehader will start at 4pm with the annual Autism Awareness game following 30 minutes following the conclusion of game one.
