Rally Bird Arrives in Dramatic Fashion

The Louisiana College baseball team returned to their home diamond on Thursday night to take on Dakota State, the first home game for the Cats had since mid-February. After struggling offensively most of the night the wings of the LC rally bird surged late as the Wildcats scored eight runs in the bottom of the eight to take the 8-6 win over the visiting Trojans.

The men were getting dominated the majority of the game, unable to solve the mystery of the Trojan starting sidearm delivering pitcher. They found themselves down from the early goings as Dakota plated three runs in the top of the second inning. The narrative seemed like it was not going to change as Dakota State kept scoring runs, building a 6-0 lead through seven and a half innings of play.

The bottom of the eighth inning saw the Wildcats with one of their biggest offensive surges they've had all season, scoring eight runs, all with 2-outs, to answer the call of the rally bird.

Things got kicked off as Deauton Delgado doubled which allowed Clayton Noakes to score. They were quickly followed by a Christian Vandergrift double that saw Delgado score. Vandergrift followed to bring the game within three. The men were nowhere near done however as Tyrese Morgan secured a run on a Brady Atkins RBI single. Atkins scampered home, along with Nick Moreau, on a bases loaded 2-run single off the bat of Keelyn Johnson. The base hit tied the game at six, then saw Clayton Noakes give LC their first lead with an RBI single, and Dane Pedersen, the 12th batter of the inning provide the Cats with an insurance run.

Shell shocked, Dakota State could not match the surge in the top of the ninth, as Dylan Roark entered the game and got three of the four batters he faced to groundout to end the game and complete the Wildcats huge comeback win 8-6.

The Wildcats return to Billy Allgood Field on Saturday, weather permitting, to begin back-to-back doubleheaders against Iowa Wesleyan University. Game one will be at 1:00 P.M. and game two will be at 4 P.M. Stay connected to Louisiana College baseball by following @LC_bsb on Twitter.
