Wildcats Hold for 4-3 Win

Louisiana College baseball capped off their weekend trip to Florida and the Russ Matt Invitational with a game against Penn State Abington. Riding the momentum from the rally bird win the day before, the Wildcats picked up a 4-3 win to take two of their three games in the Sunshine State.

After a scoreless first the Wildcats took the early lead with three runs in the second inning. Deauton Delgado hit an RBI double to get the scoring started, then two batters later Nick Moreau's 2-run triple made it 3-0 Wildcats midway through two.

The game stayed at 3-0 for the next three innings with both starting pitchers cruising through the opposing lineups. The Wildcats extended their lead to four on a leadoff solo home run from Clayton Noakes in the top of the sixth, the run that would prove to be the game winner for the Wildcats.

Abington got a run back in the bottom of the inning and were poised to potentially take the lead in the eighth after loading the bases with no out. They would get two runs on a single and groundout, but Wildcat reliever Chevy Emken would limit the damage to just those two runs and send the game to the ninth with LC on top 4-3.

Delgado would take the mound for the bottom of the ninth, with the one run lead in his possession to close. He got the first two out on a ground ball and strikeout before surrendering a walk to put the tying run on base. In an effort to move that run into scoring position Abington pinch-ran and tried to steal second. The attempt would end the game as the runner Austin Wiley gunned the runner out at second.

The Wildcats have a five-game home stand this week with on game against Dakota State and four with Iowa Wesleyan. Stay connected to Louisiana College baseball by following @LC_bsb on Twitter.
