Rally Bird Sparks Wildcats

The Louisiana College baseball team returned to day two of the Russ Matt invitational for their second game in Lakeland, Florida. Game one saw the Wildcats fall to Capital University with a 6-1 score. Looking to bounce back, the Wildcats did just that as they took down Gwynedd University with a dominant 11-5 score.

The men got off to a promising start at the bottom of the first inning when third baseman Clayton Noakes hit a home run to left field to put the Cats up early with a 1-0 score. The game appeared to be going in favor of Gwynedd as they scored one run in the top of the second and another four in the third to take the 5-1 lead into the fourth.

The game was turned on its head in the bottom of the fourth when the Wildcats loaded the bases with two walks and a single. After a brief stoppage of play due to a low-flying bird dropping a branch onto the field the Wildcats were sparked for a comeback. A bases loaded walk to Nick Moreau, an RBI-single by Blaine Ouber, and error in left, and a sacrifice fly from Ashton Martin tied the game and the LC baseball rally bird was born.

Another two runs came in the bottom of the 5th inning scored as Deauton Delgado and Hunter Bower raced home on a Christian Vandergrift single to left field. The Wildcat broke the game open in the seventh and eighth with three long balls, two from Delgado, and a second of the game from Noakes.

This win snapped a short losing skid by the Wildcats and evened their record in the Russ Matt Invitational. Stay connected to Louisiana College baseball by following @LC_bsb on Twitter. For general athletics news follow @LC_Wildcats on Twitter or like Louisiana College Wildcats on Facebook.
