Baseball Wins Big in Series Opener

Louisiana College baseball continued their winning streak on Thursday night in their series opening 13-1 win over LeTourneau University. The Wildcats pounded 21 hits in the game providing plenty of run support for starter Andrew Robinson who improved his record to 5-0 on the season. The Wildcats and Yellow Jackets will play two games on Friday to complete the series in Longview.

The Wildcats wasted no time getting the offense rolling on Thursday with back-to-back hits to start the game then a long one-out single from Clayton Noakes to bring in the game's first run. After another base hit loaded the bases Deauton Delgado hit a bases clearing double to left center that appeared to score all three runs but the final run would be called out on appeal but LC would still have a 3-0 lead after half an inning of play.

Andrew Robinson got the start on Thursday, five days after tossing 8.0 innings in the Wildcats win over Concordia, and picked up right where he left off in that outing. Robbie retired 12 of the first 14 batters he faced before allowing more than one base runner for the first time in an inning in the fifth. LETU would get their only run of the game in the sixth after a 2-out double that led to a run on an RBI single two batters later.

By the time the Jackets got on the board, the game was pretty well in hand as the Wildcats put up a run on a Delgado solo shot in the third and five more in the fourth with the big blow coming on the 3-run blast from Noakes to make it 9-0 at that point and 10-0 in the sixth on a Delgado RBI-single.

The Wildcats got the run back that they surrendered in the sixth with an RBI groundout from Keelyn Johnson in the seventh as Robinson gave way to Colten Newsom in the bottom of the inning. The freshman came in and struck out the side to set the tone for the final three innings on the mound for the Cats. He would sit down all nine batters he would face in order with five strikeouts total, to pick up the first save of his career.

The win is the 15thin a row for the Wildcats overall and the seventh straight in ASC play. The Wildcats and Yellow Jackets will play the final two games of their series on Friday afternoon starting at 1pm. Stay connected to Louisiana College baseball by following @LC_bsb on Twitter.
