Lady Cats Fall on Senior Day

In their final home game of the 2018-19 season, the Louisiana College women's basketball team were out matched by the nationally ranked East Texas Baptist Univeristy Tigers, falling to their rivals 86-53. The Wildcat travel to Ozarks and UT Tyler to close out the regular season next weekend.

The Tigers began the game with an 11-0 run through the first two minutes of play, and never looked back from that point. Although the Wildcats were able to cut it to a five-point game thanks to a quick 6-0 run with Janae Smith knocking down a jumper after a Tiger turnover. ETBU answered with a three-ball on the other end to make it an eight-point game just like that. Before the end of the first quarter the lead had ballooned to 16 as the Tigers were up 28-12 after the first.

The Wildcats were able to find some offense in spurts the rest of the way, but each time they made a little push to close the gap, the Tigers would make a big shot, get a turnover, or make a defensive stop. The Wildcats showed glimpses of quality play, namely from seniors Kourtney McGhee and Janae Smith, who along with fellow senior RyDeja McQuarn were the only thee to score in double figures for the Wildcats in the game.

In their final games at H.O. West Fieldhouse the guards each got their own ovation during the fourth quarter as they were subbed out for the final time. McGhee filled the stat sheet with 12 points, seven rebounds, and five assists on the afternoon, capping off her storied career in Pineville.

The Wildcats travel to Ozarks next Thursday for their final ASC game of the year then play at UT Tyler Saturday to close the regular season slate. The Wildcats have already secured their spot in the conference tournament, but could still improve their seeding with a win on Thursday over the Eagles.
