The Louisiana College Lady Wildcats returned to their home court Thursday night against LeTourneau University at H.O. West Field House. In a game that saw many back and forth scores and had fans on the edge from start to finish. Even though the contest saw overtime, the ladies were able to take home the win 61-58.Â
The first quarter of action was one the Cats would rather forget as they could not seem to get anything going offensively. Nearly four minutes in and the Wildcats had only mustered up two points on the board. They fought back and forth in the first quarter of action, but the Lady Wildcats saw themselves down 15-6 after a turnover filled and first quarter.Â
The second quarter didn't get much better for the Wildcats as they simply just could not get any offense rolling. Missed shots continued to be the narrative, but a pair of free throws and a layup helped the ladies escape the quarter with nine points and only down 12 as they headed to half with 25-13 deficit.
While the action was back and forth to start out the second half, the Wildcats were able to be consistent enough with rebounding and scoring to go into the fourth quarter only down 43-34. The quarter continued the back and forth narrative the game seemed to be creating, a huge jumper made my Janae Smith with just 24 seconds to go tied the action up 54-54 and sent the contest to overtime. It was close and went back and forth, but a clutch layup by Janae Smith gave the cats a 60-58 lead and thanks to a free throw Rydeja Mcquarn the Cats walked away with a 61-58 win. Janae Smith led the team in scoring with 23 points going 9-for-17- from the field, making one three, and going 5-for-8- from the free throw line.Â
