Wildcat Defense Locks Up West Coast Sweep

Baker's 27 points leads LC in Salem

Box Score SALEM, Ore. – The Louisiana College men's basketball team held Williamette to just 27 second half points to turn a tied contest at the half into the Wildcats fourth victory in five games with an 80-69 win over the Bearcats Tuesday evening at Cone Field House to take both games of the Oregon road trip and close out 2019.
 
With both teams scrambling for the lead in the opening minutes of the second half following a 42-42 halftime tie, it would be Kae'ron Baker who gave the Wildcats the push to pull away as his three-pointer with 13:45 left in the game gave LC the lead for good at 53-52, the first three points in a 13-0 Wildcat run that Denzel Austin finished with a made three of his own to make it 63-52 with 8:45 left. The Bearcats cut the LC lead down to nine points at 71-62 with 3:45 left, but the Wildcats had one final push in them to put the game out of reach as a pair of free throws by Baker was the first two of eight straight Wildcat points. Aaron McGhee finished the run with a free throw of his own to make it 79-62 with 2:00 left and the Wildcats saw out the rest of the contest.
 
Kae'ron Baker had another effective shooting night, hitting eight of his 12 shots from the field, including six made three-pointers in ten attempts, for 27 points. Denzel Austin also connected on six shots from above the three-point arc for 18 points. KJ Bilbo came off the bench to fill up the stat sheet with ten points, seven rebounds, three steals, two assists, and a blocked shot.
 
Louisiana College hit 40.9% from the field in the contest while Williamette was good on 40.3% of their attempts. The Wildcat defense forced 19 Bearcat turnovers in the contest, 11 of which were steals by LC players.
 
The first week of 2020 brings the Wildcats (6-3, 0-0 ASC) their first true conference action of the season, heading to Alpine, Texas for a date with Sul Ross State. Tip-off against the Lobos (4-6, 1-0 ASC) is set for 7:30 P.M. on Thursday, January 2nd at the Gallego Center.
