Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | LC Sports Information - Brad Welborn

Streak Ends at 10 for LC Men

The longest winning streak in the Louisiana College NCAA era came to an end on Thursday night as the high-pressure defense of Concordia caused 24 LC turnovers and led to a 65-53 loss, the first in American Southwest Conference play for the Wildcats. LC will take on the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday afternoon in their next home game of the weekend.

Concordia jumped out to a 7-0 lead to start the game, stunning the Wildcats in their home opener. As LC began to adjust to the constant pressure from the Tornado defense the offense began to find their footing. A 10-4 run by the Wildcats brought the game back within a point as Jaylen Rhone and Denzel Austin each knocked down shots from beyond the arc to complete the run.

A layup from Kae'ron Baker just past the midway point of the first half tied the game at 18, with both defenses continuing to make scoring difficult for the opposing team. It remained a two-possession game, with Concordia slightly maintaining the advantage until an 8-0 run by LC put them ahead 30-27 with 1:22 left in the half. CTX converted on a pair of free throws a few seconds later for the final points of the first with LC holding the one point lead at the break 30-29.

The Wildcats lost the lead early in the second half but another 10-0 run put them back up by four on a layup from Devon Washington with 11:55 left in the game. That would be the last field goal for more than four minutes of game time as Concordia retook the lead between Washington conversions, but LC still were only down by three at 53-50 with 7:50 remaining.

Another long stretch of stagnant offense would come for the Wildcats however as Concordia stretched their lead to double figures to 63-51 with 1:24 left in the game. The Wildcats went 2-of-10 from the field in the final 12 minutes of the game with eight turnovers.

The uncharacteristic low percentage shooting night killed the Wildcats on top of the 24 total turnovers. LC shot a season-low 33.9 percent from the field in the game and 50 percent from the free throw line. Washington was able to record his sixth double-double of the season, while Rhone had his seventh double-digit outing with 13 points.

The Wildcats take the floor again on Saturday afternoon against Mary Hardin-Baylor with tip-off scheduled for approximately 3 p.m. Stay connected to Louisiana College men's basketball by following @LC_MBSK on Twitter.
