Wildcats Open Season at Alcorn State

The Louisiana College football team will finally kick off the 2018 season on Saturday with a non-conference game at Division I HBCU Alcorn State University in Lorman, Miss. This will be the first competition between the two teams since LC traveled to the Braves in 2014, a 52-10 loss for the Wildcats.

Alcorn opened its 2018 campaign last week with a trip to Georgia Tech University where the Ramblin' Wreck amassed over 430 rushing yards in their physical triple option attack in route to a 41-0 shutout of the Braves. Alcorn's talented running back P.J. Simmons was held to just 47 yards on the ground while quarterback Noah Johnson was 10-of-15 for just 51 yards through the air in the game.

The Wildcats will debut a new quarterback for the second time in the last two seasons as West Texas A&M transfer Skyler Bonneau takes over the reigns behind an experience laden offensive line. Although there will be some new faces in some key positions for the Wildcats the core of both the offense and defense is riddled with talent and experience.

Jamarcus Fitzpatrick and Rathvon Williams help anchor the offensive line, with Drake Battaglia, Leondre James, and Aaron Woods returning as weapons on the outside and backfield. The defense, although young up front, has guys like Orel Ledet Jr, Julius Johnson, and Joshua Pickett to provide leadership on the back end.

"Alcorn is a team that's going to play extremely fast," Head Coach Justin Charles said. "They've got a lot of flashy guys on film. They've got the SWAC preseason player of the year in P.J. Simmons, who's very explosive and we've got to try and contain him."

The game will kick off at 6 p.m. from Jack Spinks-Marino Casem Stadium and can be heard live on 104.3 FM The Bridge with Rich Dupree and Doug Gann.

Wildcat fans should take note that Alcorn State University has instituted a new clear bag policy that will be in effect beginning this week. Full details on the policy is available HERE. Clear bags will be sold for $5 or $10 at Gate 11 if needed.
