Steers Outlast Wildcats in a 4-3 Finish

The Louisiana College Wildcats faced the Texas College Steers in a wet and exciting 4-3 finish for the season home opener.

The Wildcats took the lead first in the eleventh minute after freshman Gabriel G. Lopes blasted an out curling left-footed shot that left Steer keeper Edgar Rodriguez flat-footed.

The Cat lead was quickly taken away as it had been created with play restarting and TC earning a penalty kick moments later after a Wildcat foul inside the penalty box.

Killian Pallone stepped up to take the kick, his shot grazed freshman Michael Brown's fingertips to tie the game at one apiece in the 12th minute.

Minutes later Saul Amaya and Eddie Molina each bagged a one time finish from on top of the box to make the score 3-1.

The Cats would not have a response until the second half when sophomore Jason Rodriguez used the post to score his first goal of the year. Not needing a touch, Rodriguez hit Leo Urumovski's cross one time giving Steer's keeper no chance.

LC had the momentum back and up a man, looking dangerous and in the 81st minute leveled the game 3-3 with the other Gabriel lopes netting his second goal of the year as well.

Rodriguez assisted Lopes by collecting the ball on the left touchline and finding him just outside the 18-yard box. Pushing the ball forward, with space in front of him curled his shot to the upper right corner of the goal only allowing the keeper to look at it as it sailed by.

Both sides were on edge, trying anything to finish out the game without using overtime sending numbers forward at every chance.

A long ball into the LC's half gave TC that opportunity, chasing it down, Aimen Tamayo held the ball up just long enough for Molina to arrive and picking him out Molina fired off a half-volley beating Brown a second time to take the lead.

LC was unable to recover from that killer blow, only managing one more shot on goal the rest of the game. TC slipped away with the rainy day victory.

Spring Hill travels into town for a non-conference matchup Thursday afternoon for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff at Wildcat Stadium. For more LC Men's Soccer Team follow them on Facebook under Louisiana College Men's Soccer, for Instagram and Twitter at LC_MSOC.
