LC Falls To UMHB

Box Score

The Louisiana College Wildcats traveled to Belton, TX, to face the Cru of Mary Hardin-Baylor Saturday afternoon for an American Southwest Conference clash.

UMHB's three second-half goals were too much to handle for the Cats.

The first half was scoreless; each side had plenty of opportunities to score. The Cru were the more dominant side, putting up eleven shots in the first half compared to LC's three.

The LC defense was tested right from the start with a corner kick in the third minute; the Cru had seven more in the half.

Most of the shots were not an issue for Evan Barker but when he had to make a save he did not hesitate to make the stop. Barker made six stops in the first half, while Cru keeper Travis Aday faced three shots and stopped all three.

The second half started better for the Cats, with two early corners that were properly defended by UMHB, LC was knocking at the door but unable to crack UMHB.

The Cats dominance would be short-lived, minutes later in the 56th minute UMHB would take the lead and control of the game.

Two back to back corners put the Cats in a tough situation, the Cru were settling in and after the second corner Jason Goodin made LC pay. Being in the right spot at the right time, Goodin beat Barker with a strong finish inside the box.

In the 61st minute, Patrick Roach added to the lead. Getting on the end of Steven Dang's pass Roach finished with a right footed shot for the second goal.

The Cru closed out the game in the 66th minute with the third and final goal of the night. Josh Bruton blasted Marcelo Gaitan's cross far post for the critical third goal.

The game would become harder for the Cats in the 72nd minute, a straight red card for Gabriel G. Lopes after a questionable body check foul on a Crusader. The Cats were now playing with ten men with just under twenty minutes to play.

LC turned to a more defensive game plan, just trying to keep the game at three.

A quick counter-attack by LC in the 82nd minute presented their best chance, but a high shot by Leo Urumovski would be all that came out of the counter and the half.

The man-down Cats were unable to recover and fall 3-0.

Barker finished with 13 saves, facing 24 shots, 16 on goal. Gabriel G. Lopes had two shots ( 2 sog), Soto Kubo had one shot, (1 sog), Jason Rodriguez also had one shot, ( 1 sog).

The Cats have the next three games at home, starting Tuesday afternoon against in-state rival Centenary College for a non-conference meeting. Then returning to ASC action later in the weekend with Hardin-Simmons and McMurray on Thursday and Saturday.
