Early Lead Doesn’t Hold as LCU’s Season Ends

Three Goals in 11-Minute Span Dooms Wildcats in RRAC Tournament Loss at LSUS

SHREVEPORT, La. – The six-seeded Louisiana Christian University men's soccer team scored the opening goal in its Red River Athletic Conference Championship Tournament First Round match on Friday, but surrendered three goals in the closing 11 minutes of the first half, falling 4-2 to the three-seed LSU Shreveport Pilots (12-4-2) at The Swamp to end its 2026 season.

Goalkeeper Ricardo Gross kept LCU level through a busy stretch before the opening goal, making saves in the 27th, 28th, and 30th minutes. Ezra Williams then broke through in the 31st minute, finishing off an assist from Matej Motycka to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. Williams finished with two shots, while Motycka supplied LCU's lone assist.

The advantage lasted less than four minutes. LCU conceded the equalizer in the 35th minute, fell behind in the 37th minute and allowed another goal with less than a minute left on the first half clock to enter halftime trailing 3-1. The Wildcats faced 10 shots in the opening half while generating three, with Gross recording all three of his saves before the break.

LCU increased its attacking activity after halftime, outshooting the hosts 5-2 and earning all five of its corner kicks in the second half. A goal conceded in the 58th minute extended the deficit to 4-1 before Juan Sierra converted a penalty kick in the 78th minute to bring the Wildcats within two. Sierra led LCU with three shots.

The Wildcats limited LSU Shreveport to two shots after the break but finished at a 12-8 disadvantage overall. LCU also trailed 6-5 in corner kicks, while Gross played the full 90 minutes and faced seven shots on goal.

LCU's 2026 season ends with a 6-9-3 overall record.
