The Louisiana College Wildcats faced the Concordia Univ. Tornados Thursday afternoon in Round Rock, TX. for an American Southwest Conference matchup.
Two first-half Tornado goals proved to be the deciding factor as the Cats were unable to answer back and fall 2-0.
The tornadoes were the dominant force to start the game, recording five shots before their first goal in the 22nd minute. Omar Aguirre found a pocket of space and headed a shot off the crossbar and was able to get to the ball first and score his second try.
The second goal came a little more than ten minutes later in the 33rd when Joel Abrego tapped in Aguirre's pass past
Evan Barker.
Soto Kubo was the only Wildcat with a shot in the first half, compared to Concordia's ten.
The second half started better for the Cats,
Ian Carter tested Tornado keeper Rob Oakley with a left footed shot but managed to keep Carter off the score sheet.
Barker had a solid second half, saving four shots, (seven total for the night) and keeping the Cats in the game. The LC offense also kicked it up with six shots during the half.
Leo Osawa had one shot,
Leo Urumovski had two shots (2 sog),
Alex Okuma and
Gabriel G. Lopes each had one shot on goal.
With around ten minutes left the Cats had their best chance to score a goal back.
Oakley saved Urumovski's shot for a corner in the 80th minute, CU cleared the corner for another corner, Carter took the kick and found Urumovski, his shot was going near post until Oakley pushed the ball out for another corner.
The following kick was not any better; the tornadoes were able to clear the ball and close out any chance of a comeback.
The Cats head to Belton, TX, Saturday afternoon for an ASC clash against the Univ. of Mary Hardin-Baylor, kick off is at 4:30 p.m. For more LC Men's Soccer Team follow them on Facebook under Louisiana College Men's Soccer, for Instagram and Twitter at LC_MSOC.
