Wildcats Win Second Home Match in a Row

The Louisiana College women's volleyball picked up their second home match win in as many attempts on Tuesday night as they took down Centenary College in a five-set thriller 18-25, 25-22, 18-25, 25-21, 15-7. The win was the third in the last five matches for LC as they had into another conference weekend beginning on Friday night against UT Dallas in Texas.

After dropping the first set 25-18, the Wildcats would respond with a much cleaner effort in the second coming back from an early 4-0 deficit. The Wildcats stormed back with a 13-3 run that included four kills from Paola Salas Adorno and one each from Jaslyn Bright and Sadi Jones. LC held their five-point advantage through much of the rest of the set until Centenary made a late push to pull within three at 23-20. The Wildcats benefited from a pair of service errors to close the set with the 25-22 win.

The third set slipped away from the Wildcats relatively early on when Centenary pushed their slim 9-6 lead to an 18-8 advantage fairly quickly. LC scored six late points to pull the score closer with a pair of kills from Niajia Huval and ace from Jones, but it was not enough make the comeback in the third.

With their backs against the wall the Wildcats continued the fight and seemed to catch a second wind for the fourth and fifth sets. They trailed for most of the fourth set until a 4-0 run with a pair of aces by Jones made it a one-point game at 15-14. Centenary answered with two points but the Wildcats were not at all done with their rally. Another quick 4-0 swing with kills form Adorno and a big block from Bright and Huval put LC up 18-17. They added four more with kills from Huval and Darian Pate to push the advantage to 22-18. Paris Babino finished the fourth with an attack on two that fell between the Ladies defense to send things to a deciding fifth.

The Wildcats had all the momentum on their side and Centenary on their heels, and the orange and blue would take full advantage. A 9-1 early in the deciding frame gave the Wildcats a 10-5 lead on their in-state rivals. Bright had four kills during the run and Jones added one of her own with a monster solo block at the net for another. LC slammed the door on Centenary with four straight points, kills by Jones and Adorno and back-to-back aces from Jones to take the match 3-2.

The Wildcats return to ASC action this weekend with a Friday night match at UT Dallas and a Saturday afternoon affair with UT Tyler.
